How biguden entered my life
Coming from a Breton Family (a grandmother born in Pors Poulhan who boldly exiled herself to Pont L’abbé, home of bigoudénie, Finistère, Brittany), I religiously visit what I call my home at least twice a year and every time I am amazed by the creative spirit Bretons have. These indomitable entrepreneurs embrace their heritage and do not hesitate to mix it with new technologies and/or different cultures, revealing the best of Brittany folklore.
Well of course, us Bretons are a bit rebellious, proud (who isn’t) and we don’t really understand the concept of margarine (you might realize this by tasting our great Kouign Aman, part of our charm). But above all, we are very curious and eager to connect with the world.
As a passionate traveller myself, I can say without doubt that Brittany is one of the richest, most beautiful and preserved region I know. The wild coast and ocean, the medieval towns, the Dolmen and “menhirs”, the minuscule harbours, the not so minuscule harbours, the langoustines, the fest noz, the doomed islands…These are only a small part of what you can discover.
As the years go by and my addiction to Kouign Aman and to gigantic waves keep growing, I more and more felt the need to help promote the amazing artists and artisans who continue to make Brittany shine. I decided to share the experiences, products, places – traditional or modern – I love (and with no financial incentive) from an expatriate eye. Biguden is therefore in English (sorry Mamie) so that it travels and learns from the diversity of its readers, and one day it becomes the reference for anyone who wants to discover the Breton treasures!
biguden = bigoudène in phonetics!
